ecoENERGY Retrofit for Houses

Program Description:
Launched at Standard TIM-BR Mart in Vancouver by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of Natural Resources, ecoENERGY Retrofit for Houses is a $300 million program to help make homes more energy efficient. $220 million of the budget is to improve the energy efficiency of 140,000 existing homes. The ecoENERGY Retrofit grant is available to homeowners who have purchased the EnerGuide for Houses Energy Evaluation service and have implemented some or all of its recommendations. The average cost of the evaluation service is $400, and the average grant amount is $1000, to a maximum of $5000.

NOTE: This is a redesign and relaunch of the EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Incentive program that was discontinued as of midnight May 12, 2006.

Eligibility:
Residential property owners living in Canada are eligible for a grant under the ecoENERGY Retrofit program provided that: at the time of application, they own the dwelling for which the grant is requested they have received a pre-retrofit energy efficiency rating under EGH (EGH A) after May 12, 2006 they have performed, or have had performed on their behalf, energy efficiency renovations they have received a post-retrofit energy efficiency rating under EGH (EGH B) that shows the dwelling has met or exceeded the energy efficiency improvement levels required to meet the threshold for a grant after April 1, 2007 they permit the service organization to submit the dwelling's electronic data file and ownership information to NRCan

Restrictions:
All buildings must be completely habitable, with the building envelope intact and the mechanical systems installed and working. Your building is eligible for this program if you are the owner or landlord of:

  • a low-rise, detached, semi-detached or row house (not stacked)
  • a mobile homes on a permanent foundation only
  • a duplex, triplex or apartments – up to 3 stories high that is 100% residential

Maximum Amount:
$5,000 per project

Application Procedure:
The application for the grant must be made by an authorized Energy Advisor service organization on behalf of the owner. To book an EGH evaluation, contact an Energy Advisor near you or call 1-800-387-2000 to find the name of one in your area who can perform an evaluation.

Application Deadline:
Application must be submitted no later than 18 months after the date of the pre-renovation evaluation.
